FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Getting Started

  • I offer a complimentary 15 minute consultation so you can get a sense of whether working together feels right. It is important that you feel comfortable and at ease in our sessions. If it does not feel like the right fit, I am happy to suggest alternative options.

  • At present, sessions are available via phone and secure video telehealth. I will be offering in person appointments in the Eastern Suburbs shortly. If you would prefer face to face sessions, please enquire and I will add you to the waitlist.

  • Your appointment time is reserved exclusively for you. A minimum of 48 hours notice is required to cancel or reschedule. Cancellations within 48 hours incur a 50% fee, and within 24 hours or non attendance incur the full session fee.

I understand that genuine emergencies can arise and these will be considered with care. As a private practice, clear cancellation boundaries help ensure the sustainability of the service and fairness to all clients.

Fees & Insurance

  • Yes.
Medicare rebates are available with a valid Mental Health Care Plan and GP referral addressed to Janine Moon, Accredited Mental Health Social Worker.

    • Session fee: $220 (50 minutes)

    • Medicare rebate: $89.65

    • Out-of-pocket: $130.35

Up to 10 rebated sessions per calendar year are available under Medicare.

  • Private health insurance

I do not bill private health funds directly.

If you have extras cover, you can check with your insurer whether rebates apply for sessions with an Accredited Mental Health Social Worker. Receipts can be provided if required.

Many clients access rebates through Medicare or Victims Services.

  • Yes. I am an approved provider for:

    Victims Services NSW
Funded counselling for eligible victim-survivors of violent crime in NSW, including domestic and family violence and sexual assault.

    Psychological Support Service (PSS)
Short term mental health support for people experiencing financial hardship who are not eligible for Medicare funded sessions.

Please enquire for further information about these pathways.

The Therapy Experience

  • I typically recommend starting with weekly sessions. This helps us build momentum, establish trust, and get to the root of things faster. Once you feel stable and have the tools you need, we can transition to bi-weekly or monthly "maintenance" sessions. We will decide on this cadence together.

  • There is no standard timeline because everyone's story is different. Some clients come for a specific transition and feel ready to move on after 3–6 months. Others value therapy as an ongoing practice for self-reflection and stay for a year or longer. We will regularly check in on your goals to ensure you are getting what you came for.

  • Those are often the most powerful sessions. When we aren't putting out immediate fires, we have the space to go deeper into underlying patterns, and subtle shifts. I will support and guide you through the process.
